Imam Muhammad al-Bāqir (AS) was the fifth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt. He uniquely descended from both Imam Hasan (AS) and Imam Husayn (AS) — his father being the son of Husayn and his mother the daughter of Hasan. He played a pivotal role in preserving and expanding the intellectual and spiritual legacy of Islam He witnessed the tragedy of Karbala at a young age and lived through the difficult aftermath of that event. The Imam was martyred in 114 A.H. and buried in Jannat al-Baqīʿ, near his father and other members of the Ahl al-Bayt. Several individuals are attributed with his martyrdom. This suggests a coordinated plot by Umayyad agents. Despite the differing reports, Hisham, who was known for his hostility toward the Ahl al-Bayt (a), likely played a pivotal role.
