یونسکو هیئت کارشناسی به ایران اعزام می‌کند / نگرانی‌ها از وضعیت کاخ گلستان با توجه به برگزاری جلسات
*Attack on Golestan Palace condemned as grave breach of international humanitarian law* 🗓️ *Tehran, 23 March 2026* The Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO has condemned the recent American-Israeli strike on the Golestan Palace as a “clear and serious violation” of international humanitarian law and established conventions protecting cultural heritage, following reports of extensive damage to the World Heritage site. 🔹 Speaking on Monday during a site visit, Hassan Fartousi underscored the strictly civilian character of the palace complex, noting that it lies entirely within a designated cultural heritage zone and serves no military or dual-use function. “ _The Golestan Palace, as Tehran’s sole UNESCO World Heritage property, is situated in an area defined exclusively f or cultural heritage purposes, with absolutely no military presence_ ,” he said. Fartousi also rejected claims suggesting military use of surrounding structures, emphasizing that nearby buildings including a courthouse dating back approximately a century have consistently served civilian purposes. 🔻 *Violation of international conventions* The Secretary-General described the attack as a direct breach of the *Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict* , particularly its Second Protocol, as well as a violation of core principles of international humanitarian law, which mandate the protection of civilian objects and cultural property during armed conflict. “ _This incident represents not only a grave violation of international conventions but also a clear contradiction of the fundamental principles safeguarding cultural heritage as part of humanity’s shared legacy_ ,” he stated. 🔸 *Significant damage to artistic heritage* Preliminary expert assessments indicate that between 40 and 50 per cent of the palace’s artistic ornamentation has been damaged. While the main structural framework remains intact, shockwaves from the blasts have severely affected delicate decorative elements integral to the site’s historical value. 🔹 *The Marble Throne and shared global responsibility* Highlighting the cultural significance of the site, Fartousi drew attention t o the Marble Throne, a more than 220-year-old feature of the complex, describing it as a symbol of national identity and a component of humanity’s shared heritage. “ _The preservation of such heritage is not solely a national duty but a responsibility that transcends borders,_ ” he said. ▪️ *Call for protection and solidarity* Fartousi expressed appreciation for the efforts of cultural heritage professionals working under challenging and hazardous conditions to safeguard the site. He stressed the need for heightened international awareness and collective responsibility in protecting cultural assets, particularly in times of conflict. Concluding his remarks, he emphasized the intergenerational dimension of heritage protection: “ _Cultural heritage is a trust passed down through generations. It is our duty to preserve it with integrity and transmit it to future generations, requiring strong commitment, national unity, and sustained vigilance_ .” 📍The Golestan Palace, inscribed on the *UNESCO World Heritage List* , remains one of Iran’s most significant historical complexes and a testament to the country’s rich cultural and artistic traditions.

*The Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO visited the Sa'dabad Cultural-Historical Complex; following the recent American-Israeli attacks* 📣 _Following the attack on Sa'dabad Cultural-Historical Complex in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, 2026, serious damage was inflicted on the historical buildings of this complex. Dr. Hassan Fartousi, Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, visited this complex yesterday (March 23, 2026) to document the extent of the damage and report it to UNESCO._ 📌 In the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Sa'dabad Cultural-Historical Complex, the largest cultural-historical complex in Iran, was targeted. Multiple explosions and resulting shrapnel caused significant damage to the historical buildings of the complex. This attack occurred while the Sa'dabad Complex, comprising 100 large and small buildings and 15 palace-museums an d museums, encompasses a wide range of structures. The main damage includes broken glass, damage to walls, damage to ceilings, damage to interior decorations, dislodged wooden doors and windows, and damage to roofs/gables. 🔸️ *Damage to Palaces Near the Incident:* ➖️ The severity of damage in the three palaces closest to the incident site—namely the *Green Palace-Museum* (the oldest palace, over a century old, containing an unparalleled collection of traditional Iranian arts), the *Vali Mansion* (the oldest section of the complex dating back to the mid-Qajar era), and the *Omidvar Brothers Museum* (the only travel museum in Iran)—was very high, and in some cases, structural damage was observed. ➖️ Other museums and buildings, including the Museum of Fine Arts Palace-Museum, the Nation Palace-Museum, the Master Farshchian Palace-Museum, the Royal Vessels Palace-Museum, the Clothing Palace-Museum, the Courtly Arms Museum, the Bahman Palace, the Behzad Palace-Museum, the Public Relations building, the Library building, and the Darband ticket office, have also sustained serious damage. The damage inflicted on the remaining 12 museums and approximately 85 small and large buildings within the complex consisted of broken glass, damage to ceilings, dislodged doors and windows, and damage to roofs/gables. 🟤 *Condition of Historical Objects:* ➖️ Fortunately, due to the transfer of historical o bjects and artifacts to secure storage, no damage has been done to these treasures so far, and they remain safe. 🏛 The Sa'dabad Cultural-Historical Complex, with approximately 200,000 historical objects, represents damage equivalent to that inflicted upon 15 major museums in the country. This complex annually hosts around 2 million domestic and foreign visitors and holds irreplaceable historical, cultural, and artistic value. 🔵 Over the past two years, thanks to the special attention of the 13th government to the restoration and protection of historical monuments, about 90% of the structural issues of the Sa'dabad Complex buildings had been resolved. Dr. Fartousi's visit to the complex and the documentation of the damage will be an important step in pursuing international follow-ups and efforts to compensate for this damage. ♻️ با ما همراه باشید http://eitaa.com/msrt_ir
