My feelings were alive until someone took aim at them
I trusted like a deer wandering peacefully through a quiet forest
Never knowing that the silence around me was not safety but a warning
Every feeling I showed became another place to hurt me
Every piece of my heart I gave away came back a little more broken
So I slowly stopped speaking about what I felt
I learned to hide my softness behind silence and pretend nothing mattered
Maybe my feelings did not really die they simply learned to stay hidden
And now I protect the parts of me that once believed everyone meant no harm
