Salamun Alaykum, This Thursday at SoQ, in addition to our regular weekly program, some of our students of Qom from Philippines will be delivering a 15-min in-person presentation in English where they elaborate on what they call to be the “Fiercest Battle” of the Americans against the Muslims of Mindanao. Dating back to May 1902, this Moro-American war is remembered by the locals as "Padang Karbala". Why is it named after Karbala? Tausug and the Maranao are two of the strongest tribes of Moro who spearheaded the struggle for self-determination against the foreign invaders and those locals who left their original religion and converted to Christianity.
